George Perez's rejected cover for Green Lantern #145 (Oct 1981)

Here is George Perez's rejected cover for Green Lantern #145. Editorial decided to go with Joe Staton's cover.
Per letter page:
You may have noticed something a wee bit different about this letters page - - mainly the tiny George Pérez cover directly below. Here’s the story, in my transition into GL editorship, we somehow wound up with two great covers for issue 145. At that point, Marv, Joe and I had a mini conference and decided that the cover on the front of this issue of GL is a bit more reflective of the story within so, any of you have a vote? - - Dave.

And a treasury edition of Flash #300 would be nice, too.
§ July 29th, 2026
So there you see above, my copy of the original Justice League of America #200 from 1981, propped up there against a copy of the new Justice League of America #200 treasury-sized facsimile edition due out in your better comic shops this week, and even in mine, too.
For a long time I’ve pushed for a hardcover reprint of this, as it’s the absolute ideal of an Anniversary Issue. Written by Gerry Conway (with some assistance from Roy Thomas), the story is based in the origins of the team, presenting a sequel to those events while demonstrating the changes the League has undergone in the decades since.

It looks like Blokees got a DC Comics license. They've just released Nightwing. I bought a few Transformers from them, they're model kits but they're really easy to snap together and build. Nightwing is $20, which I'll probably pass - unless I see it in stores and then I'll probably talk myself into buying it.

This Legion of Super-Heroes: The Curse: The Deluxe Edition book was released in May 2025, but I missed it entirely because George Perez was not listed in the book's credits. The reason why I'm bringing this book to your attention is because George Perez drew Colossal Boy on this cover. The original cover appeared on Legion of Super-Heroes #300 (Jun 1983).
Here are the cover credits: Carmine Infantino (Supergirl); Paris Cullins (Invisible Kid); George Perez (Colossal Boy); Joe Kubert (Dawnstar); Kurt Schaffenberger (Superboy); Jose Luis Garcia Lopez (Sun Boy); Don Heck (White Witch); Jim Aparo (Karate Kid); Jan Duursema (Queen Project (Pencils) Bob Oksner (Supergirl); Paris Cullins (Invisible Kid); George Perez (Colossal Boy); Joe Kubert (Dawnstar); Kurt Schaffenberger (Superboy); Jose Luis Garcia Lopez (Sun Boy); Don Heck (White Witch); Jim Aparo (Karate Kid); Keith Giffen; Larry Maehlstedt; Dick Giordano; and Jan Duursema (Queen Projectra).

For people asking for a video comparison, here are some of my thoughts on Crisis on Infinite Earths Absolute 2026... Just some random thoughts and comparison to the other Crisis on Infinite Earth: 2025 DC Finest (book 1 is currently out), 2005 Absolute, 2019 Box Set (particularly "Behind the Crisis" book), and 1998 Original Hardcover.

For the past few years, I've been keeping tabs on what is selling on Amazon - consistently Absolute Batman (and the Absolute universe) have dominated the charts.
Crisis Absolute Edition 2026 is ranked #153 in Superhero Comics & Graphic Novels which is very good for a $150 book.

Ricardo C asks: I noticed that a lot of the new DC Finest and New Teen Titans Collected editions appear to be using a type of paper that feels and looks somewhat like newsprint. Can you confirm? Is that type of paper better than the paper used in the New Teen Titans Baxter series?
Vu's Answer: Do yourself a favor and go to a book store and flip through a DC Finest to observe for yourself.
DC Finest paper are not like Newsprint. Newsprint is like fragile newspaper and is only better than toilet paper. There are different levels of newsprint, but generally the newsprint paper is grey-ish and sometimes have cheap recycled paper pulp and does not appear consistent in paper quality.
Baxter paper were an improvement over newsprint, and yes, it's generally brighter and stiff-ish, heavier stock of paper. I haven't handle Baxter paper in a while, but it is not glossy. Colors are absorbed into the paper, but still appears a million times better than their newsprint counterparts. When I was collecting both newsprint and Baxter Titans books in the mid-80s, there was no comparison - newsprint was clearly the inferior product ... but I had a hard time justifying paying $1.25 for Baxter, compared to 60 or 75 cents for newsprint.
The DC Finest paper is semi-glossy. It's a matter of opinion, but some people don't like the gloss (very reflective) - but I don't mind it. To me, paper appears bright white, and black is not deep black, because it can be reflective. Blacks on Baxter are deep black. All DC Finest colors are vibrant and bright. Generally speaking, I've been very impressed with the DC Finest paper.
I have reviewed thousands of DC Finest pages, and this new printing process does not suffer from any bad separation. The DC Finest printing is very CLEAR with tremendous fine-line details with accurate colors. I am assuming DC is using this new/modern printing style on all their current collected books.
Example of the fine-line, note Geo-Force's lower lips (you can clearly see six fine lines, which the others do not reproduce). Part of this has to do with the remastering of the Crisis series (the same six lines of the lips appeared on the new Absolute Crisis), but it showcase an example of the clarity of the DC Finest printing process.

I saw the Lanterns trailer. I don't know, it gave off a Parallax vibe to me. I hope they don't go this route.
Lanterns will premiere August 16 on HBO Max.

Legion of Super-Heroes by Mark Waid and Barry Kitson Omnibus
by Mark Waid (Author), Barry Kitson (Illustrator) Format: Hardcover
A bold new future begins here—Mark Waid and Barry Kitson reinvent the Legion of Super-Heroes for a new generation, blending cosmic adventure, teenage rebellion, and sweeping sci-fi world-building into a definitive modern era.
The 31st century is broken—and only the Legion can fix it. In this ambitious reinvention of DC’s iconic teen super-team, Mark Waid (Kingdom Come, The Flash, Irredeemable) and Barry Kitson (JLA: Year One, Empire) rebuild the Legion from the ground up, crafting a thrilling saga of revolution, idealism, and cosmic-scale heroism. In a future where conformity has replaced curiosity and safety has smothered freedom, a new generation of super-powered teens rises to challenge the status quo. With my satisfaction of the recent Crisis on Infinite Earths: Absolute Edition (2026), I am eyeing on my next Absolute Edition - Superman: Man of Steel ... coming out September 8, 2026 - with gilded silver pages, original pencils, and die-cut slip cover.
John Byrne’s historic reinvention of Superman returns in DC’s most prestigious format.
After Crisis on Infinite Earths, DC tapped legendary writer-artist John Byrne to reimagine Superman for a new era—one that would redefine the hero’s origins, relationships, and philosophy. In The Man of Steel, Byrne delivers a bold, character-driven reboot full of modern gravitas and timeless charm, setting the stage for every Superman story to come. From first meetings with Batman and Lois Lane to the rise of Lex Luthor and the eerie debut of Bizarro, this six-issue series reshaped the mythos of the Man of Tomorrow with unmatched clarity and heart.
This Absolute Edition collects The Man of Steel #1–6 in an oversized hardcover format with deluxe features and extras printed on an uncoated paper.

[22 Jul 2026] Mitch Byrd, 63, American comic book artist, heart attack
Mitch Byrd, longtime comic book artist probably best known for his run on Guy Gardner: Warrior with writer Beau Smith and inker Dan Davis, has passed away at 63, following a recent illness. Byrd’s big break into comics came with the independent series, Cat and Mouse, about a pair of vigilante heroes in Louisiana, with writer Roland Mann and inker Steven Butler (the first issue had a cover by the great Paul Gulacy, so I’m using a later issue with cover art by Byrd), that was first published by EFGraphics, and then at Aircel Comics (when it was a Malibu Comics imprint. Mann maintained the rights to the characters, and has revived them in recent years at his Silverline Comics)

Leo mentioned that the George Perez's Artist Choice is $111 on Amazon, but when I previously checked it was at normal price ($150). Now I went back and check again today it shows $111. Not sure if Amazon will honor this price upon its release on July 28, 2026. (Please note: Comic Book retailers already have this book in stores - the publisher chose to delay this book for mass market)
