I was there. I went to high school with George [Perez] ..I visited Rich [Buckler] on the grand concourse in the Bronx. At the time I was going to Bronx community college, so George worked on Deathlok, Fantastic Four, Avengers... most in '73 and '74.

George and I did my fanzine Conjure in 1974 which I put together with him at his apartment on Westchester square where he lived with his then wife Yvette...  Later that year, I think George did his first pro work in a 2 paper in Deathlok [ASTONISHING TALES #25 (Aug 1974)] ... then he did Man Wolf [CREATURES ON THE LOOSE #33  (Jan 1975)] ... and so on [DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG-FU].

I went up to Marvel with him to hang out.. and ended up getting my first writing assignments from Archie Goodwin. While still in college, I did assistant work for Stan Lee, did stuff around the office, and I worked with the film companies to get photos and materials for the black and white magazines... Later, Stan hired he to help run the 1976 Marvel Con in NYC... I did the program book and arranged to premiere the doc savage film and got the rare Captain America serial from Republic Pictures. Meanwhile, George moved to the Fantastic Four and Avengers.... and we both got to meet our hero Jack kirby !

Later, we both ended up at DC. Me as assistant to Jenette [Kahn]... George doing New Teen Titans and JLA. I remained friends with him till he passed.  50 years from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx.  You can read a longer article I wrote for back issue magazine the George Perez Memorial issue of PACESETTER.  Still miss the dude...

CONJURE#1 a fanzine published in 1974 by Tom Sciacca- print run was low-- 500 only (rare) it features the first published comics art by GEORGE PEREZ -- we went to Cardinal Hayes H.S. together and after H.S. wanted to get into the comics biz. I decided to publish a small magazine as a sample. That year George started on Man-Wolf and I started writing for Marvel-- the rest is history. I just found a couple of extra copies of this magazine in my files--- it's an odd size about 6x7 pink(!) cover with George Perez fantasy illo-back cover is a female barbarian (pre-Xena) the inside front is by myself inks by Perez, George writes and draws "The Legend of Kazo Nal"-- again S&S gee do you think we were onto something here? There's also a full page ilo from George's Charlies Angelsesq HOT SHOTS (before C>A>)and George also inks a sword and sorcery story by me, DARK TOWER. There are also stories and illustrations by Bill Maher, Bill Giordano, and T.J.Glenn (the star of IGOR AND THE LUNATICS).
